After years of turmoil, Iraq is now on its way to realize its full economic potential. The country had a GDP of $192 Bn in 2017.
Iraq is highly dependent on imports across all sectors as they industries in the country have just started to scale up. In 2017, Iraq imported 1 Million MT of Rice valued at approx $600 Mn, roughly 85% of their total consumption. This was 2% of their total imports valued at $29.7 Bn. Post the war era, Iraq now presents opportunities to rebuild the country once again with opportunities across all sectors notably Aluminum Smelting, Steel Industry, the production of tractors, electrical goods, telephone cables, and tires.
We at PJS, started importing rice in Iraq from 2018 under our own brands (272, Al Samadi & Al Bakhera). In 2018, we ventured into Iraq, initiating the construction of an Aluminum Smelting plant in the city of Bagdad.
